The Scoop: Update on Homewood Suites Providence

Our eight story, 120 key hotel in Providence continues to make great progress. To catch up on the work at Homewood Suites, we got the scoop from Area Superintendent, Frank Landers:

The roof slab was poured in the end of May, thus completing the structure. The roof started the last week of June and is about 90% complete. Additionally, the material hoist was inspected and made operational the last week of June.

Interior framing is ongoing on the 8th floor along with framing and structural punch list items on floors 5-7. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fire protection roughs are all in progress on floors 5-8. The 3rd and 4th floors have been inspected, signed off and drywall is being hung on walls. Unit ceilings are currently being framed on the 3rd floor. Upon sign off, drywall will commence being hung on ceilings. Bathroom ceiling framing is complete up to the 6th floor and will also have drywall hung upon passing firestopping inspections. Door frames have been installed through the 6th floor, and the slabs were released. Knockdown frames for bathrooms and passage doors are on site and will commence installation after drywall. Shower bases are installed through the 7th floor and the wall surrounds were delivered and are on site.

Spino Brothers masonry is currently working on 4 different elevations off of Fraco and pipe scaffolding. The cornice is complete at the roof line with the exception of where the mast for the material hoist is located. The precast stone is complete on 3 elevations (D,1 and A lines) and they are moving to the E line to continue installation of precast. They have their “clip system”, for thin brick, installed up to the 8th floor on the same three elevations. They are also installing the exterior header detail on the windows as the ascend the building. Chapman waterproofing is onsite caulking exterior of windows and is coordinating with the Spino Brothers to stay ahead of them. The elevator hoistway was completed in early June and was inspected and accepted by Shindler Elevator. Upon acceptance of the hoistway, the elevators were released for production and currently are expected on site in early August with install to start immediately thereafter.

We are using a carpenter from our drywall subcontractor, Custom Drywall, on an as-needed basis. At the time of the last update, the millwork shops had been returned and distributed but we were waiting on the countertops. Those have been returned and are in fabrication. The cabinets for the mock-up suite (304) were delivered and are being stored on site until ceilings are hung, taping is complete, and we are ready to install.
