Powerful Women in Construction – Part 2: Tammi
Part 2 of our 4 part series recognizing the women who work at Tocci and their role on construction projects. Click here for Part 1: Frances.
Tammi Gott is the Planning Coordinator and has 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Every project is her favorite. She has a unique perspective seeing all of the projects that come through Planning + Cost Engineering whether Tocci builds them or not. Tammi recognizes the significance of the construction industry: it’s a dynamic, creative, and technologically advanced industry that shapes the world we live in.
Her advice for women in the industry:
“Despite the lingering stereotype ‘it’s a man’s job,’ we need to continue to increase the number of women in the construction industry so that we are not a rarity. If you’re just starting out in your career, working onsite and in the office, will give you first-hand experience. Be confident in your own abilities and knowledge. I realized that the more willing I am to ask questions and show I’m willing to learn from these ‘guys’ who have so much more experience than I have, the more they become comfortable with a woman being involved and giving them direction. Once you start building that relationship of familiarity and trust, working together becomes second nature.”
An interesting anecdote about Tammi, she has a phobia of being at a restaurant or bar by herself. Any takers for a dinner date? (You just can’t sit next to her.) You have to watch her squirm at the bar. Please take photos.
